Press Release
Louisville, KY- Mayor Greg Fischer and numerous community partners announced today the inaugural Mayor’s Week of Valor — a week-long series of events to honor and celebrate the contributions of active-duty military, veterans and their families.

The Week of Valor begins on Monday, November 10th with numerous events scheduled throughout the week designed to honor and celebrate the contributions of active duty military, veterans and their families.  The week culminates with the Run with Our Heroes 5K on Saturday, November 15th.    The Run/Walk will start and end at the site of the old silos across from the Lacrosse Fields.

“It’s our goal to make Louisville the most supportive and responsive community in the nation for veterans,” Fischer said. “By raising awareness during the Week of Valor, we can help ensure that every veteran living in Louisville has the coordinated support and access to services for an optimal quality of life.”

Run with our Heroes festivities begin at 8AM with a special tribute to veterans from many US wars and conflicts and the singing of our National Anthem, all led by COL Chris Wynder, the first Army War College Fellow at the University of Louisville.  The race will end with a live soldier finish chute in which runners and walkers will be welcomed.  Proceeds from the Run With Our Heroes 5K will support the University of Louisville Veterans Services Fund and Behavioral Health Peer Support Programs at Seven Counties Services.

The UofL Veterans Services Fund was established as a commitment to military students and veterans at the University of Louisville; the proceeds will  directly benefit military and veteran students pursuing their education at the University of Louisville.

Seven Counties is committed to continually funding additional services for military families through expansion of peer support and family support programs, wrap around services and substance abuse and suicide prevention initiatives.
